The Cape Town Regional Court will on Wednesday rule on whether Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina should be detained pending possible deportation from South Africa.

Adetshina, a former Miss South Africa contestant, was arrested in June after allegedly re-entering South Africa despite being declared a prohibited person.

Her lawyers maintain that she was not involved in the alleged fraud surrounding her birth registration, while South African authorities insist she breached immigration rules.

The Department of Home Affairs is seeking her detention as it continues deportation proceedings. The court’s decision will determine whether she remains free or is detained pending the immigration process.
