orship Election: Oyebamiji Reacts to Defeat, Calls for Calm Over Rising Tension

Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, has reacted to the outcome of the poll, calling on his supporters to remain calm and peaceful amid what he described as rising tension in the state. Oyebamiji thanked APC leaders, members, supporters, volunteers and voters for their commitment, sacrifice and support throughout the campaign.

He acknowledged that he and his supporters had hoped for a different outcome but said he respected the position of the electoral umpire and supported the APC’s decision to review the outcome of the election. According to Oyebamiji, the campaign provided an opportunity to present an alternative vision for the development and prosperity of Osun State, adding that the values and causes championed during the campaign would remain relevant despite the election result.

He urged party members and supporters to remain engaged and continue working for the collective good of the state. Oyebamiji also raised concerns over what he described as a growing trend of hostility and violence against APC members and supporters. He alleged that attacks witnessed during the build-up to the election had taken another dimension in the 24 hours preceding his statement.

He therefore called on the Osun State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and stop what he described as an “ugly trend” without delay. The APC candidate also urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful as they go about their daily activities in the post-election period. He expressed gratitude to everyone who supported his candidacy, saying he remained proud of the campaign and grateful for the confidence reposed in him.
