The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 329, 865. 329,865.585 kilograms of illicit drugs worth an estimated N 301. 05 billion in Lagos.
The destruction was carried out on Monday at Navy Town, Ojo, following an order from the Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to the NDLEA, the drugs included substances seized in completed cases, abandoned consignments, and illicit substances recovered by various commands across Lagos between April 2025 and May 2026.
The drugs destroyed included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, other opioids, and khat leaves.
Speaking on the exercise, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.) said the destruction shows the agency's ongoing commitment to dismantling illicit drug trafficking networks across the country.
Marwa warned drug traffickers and their associates that the agency will continue to pursue and disrupt their operations, emphasizing that the large quantity of drugs destroyed is a significant setback for criminal networks involved in the illicit trade.
He also connected drug trafficking to organized crime, terrorism, and violent extremism, noting that intercepting large shipments of illicit drugs remains a key part of Nigeria's broader security efforts.
The NDLEA continues to bolster interdiction efforts at airports, seaports, land borders, and other strategic locations to prevent illicit drugs from entering circulation.
The agency stated that the destruction of the seized substances was carried out following proper legal procedures and judicial approval.
This recent exercise underscores the scale of illicit drug trafficking facing Nigeria and highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to seize and destroy prohibited substances before they reach communities.
